The Holy Month of Blessings |
Allah (s.w.t.) is very precise when He sends a message to Muslims in Qura’an prescribing the obligatory fast in the holy month of Ramadan. He says, “Fasting is prescribed for you so that you may achieve taqwa”, which means piety.
Piety in simple words means “cleanliness” or the outcome of cleansing the soul of anger, jealousy, greed, impatience, intolerance and discontentment and replacing them by the virtue of patience, tolerance, control, sympathy, understanding the needs of others, which is the essence, meaning, and objective of true worship of Allah.
Through fasting Allah does not want the worshippers to suffer from thirst and hunger for the sake of it; but means to provide the actual understanding of the need of those who go through these experiences due to their circumstances.
The holy month of Ramadan is the greatest blessing for the believers to develop all those virtues that qualify them to attain the highest pleasure of Allah and claim the ultimate reward in the form of entrance in Jannah.
May Allah grant us His pleasure and mercy for our fasting and prayers in this blessed month – Ameen.

The event started with recitation of Holy Qur’aan followed by the national anthems of United Arab Emirates and Pakistan. The famous musical group ARZ from Karachi was present to add colors to the show. The songs of Saleem Javed reflected true love and respect for the country and the fellow countrymen, reminding of the sacrifices of our predecessors and pleading for the solidarity to carve out a better future. The beats and lyrics rocked the youth present. Faisal Qazi, the popular TV and stage artist amused the audience with his comedy acts. The green and white clothes worn by men, women and children reflected the enthusiasm of the participants.
*These children clad in green and white are the hope for the better future.*
We all pray that may Allah (swt) keep our country safe from any calamity and give us the determination to make it one of the most developed countries of the world.

Rising Squash Star: Adil Maqbool |
 |
 |
 |
When Adil says that Squash is in my blood he is not exaggerating. “The first sound heard by Adil after the azan was that of a squash ball banging against the wall” says Mr. Khawaja Maqbool, the proud father of Adil. From that day onwards young Adil was regularly taken to the court where he would sit in his pram and watch people playing.
Adil won his first UAE Under 9 championship at the young age of 5 back in 1993. In 1994, he won the UAE under 10 title and in the following year he won the UAE Junior under 12 championship. His first advent on the international circuit came in the year 1996 when he went to Hong Kong to play the Hong Kong Open Under 10 Championship. Unfortunately, he lost in a nail biting final which was marred by a controversial decision by the referee although everyone including the crowd and his opponent had already greeted him for winning the championship. This loss did not dampen Adil’s spirits and he came back the following year to claim the title with a convincing match winning performance. He is the only Pakistani who has won these titles at the age of 13.
Adil is a success story and his list of achievements is growing ever since. He is now ranked No. 81 at the Worlds Men’s circuit and his aspiration is to finish the year at top 70. While Adil remains committed to squash he has not lost the focus on studies. At Ibn-e-Sina School, Sharjah, he got four ‘A’s in his ‘O’Level and is currently enrolled in a bachelors program in Information Technology at Preston University, Sharjah where he has been awarded a scholarship. Adil knows how to balance his life between studies, home and recreation. He spends 4 hours every day in the squash court.
Adil looks up to his father as a source of inspiration. His father is a determined Squash Coach and a passionate Pakistani. Mr. Maqbool narrates his determination to carry on the legacy that our homeland has been proud of. It is evident from his efforts & hard work that

he has been putting up together with his son. Their love for squash reflects on their villa in Ajman named as “Squash House”. Mr. Maqbool’s passion for this cause has not slowed his efforts despite his financial difficulties. All the travelling and related expenditures during these international and local championships were self-financed thorough his coaching at sofitel hotel in Dubai.
There are many more Adils in Pakistan and abroad who lack the resources to nourish their talents in many fields. They need the community and the Government to come forward and support them to grow. To know further about his achievements please log on to www.adilmaqbool.com |

The
Welfare Challenge |
This article is a part of a series that would cover the services of PAD Welfare committee and its activities in serving the local Pakistani community in need. |
 |
 |
 |
She is just like your nine year old school girl, full of life, fun, feelings and aspirations. Just like your daughter she loves her dolls and looks forward to a visit to the play areas in shopping Malls. Saira has got a lot of fanfare at her school in Sharjah; her intelligence and jovial nature makes her the centre of attention for most of the time. The sad part of the story is that she is a chronic heart patient; this hampers her to proceed her studies normally. She had an open heart surgery 2 years ago at the Mafraq Hospital in Abu Dhabi. Afterwards she had to remain under constant medical care and underwent an angioplasty procedure. |
|
Saira was born with a heart ailment and suffered regular pains throughout her childhood. Her father, an instructor at the Emirates driving school is thankful to the Pakistani Association in Dubai for virtually adopting her and taking care of all her Medical expenses. Saira’s father is unable to pay for her expenses in his meagre salary; he has two other children to take care of. The bill for her first operation amounted to AED 24000 that was covered |
|
|
by the PAD. All of her medical expenses have been borne by the association so far. She gets regular attacks of high blood pressure and it has to be monitored both at home and at school. According to her recent medical reports her arteries are again getting clogged up and she has to be sent to UK for immediate treatment.
PAD agreed to put up the amount of AED 180,000 for her operation. This amount covers up the travel and living expenses of her father and mother too. Saira’s father was a happy man, thousands of miles away from his hometown Rawalpindi but not helpless and secluded; for he had the love and support of his country men in Dubai.
We pray that may Allah bless Saira with best of health and happiness.
We would like to invite the members of the Pakistani community to come and meet the distressed families who are catered for at the PAD every Monday evening. It’s appalling that so many Pakistanis are suffering right next to us without us being aware of them. PAD gives an opportunity for the privileged citizens of Pakistan to contribute to this noble cause with a peace of mind that there fund would be utilized in the most appropriate manner. You can also recommend a deserving person with financial issues to PAD |

| Summer Camp |
An endeavor for children’s character building |
 |
 |
 |
“Today’s toddlers; tomorrow’s trend-setters”
This is the paramount idea behind the recent initiative taken by the housewives of PAD members. Titled as “Flowers of Jannah”, the summer camp launched in 2006, has become a popular feature of PAD activities.
June 21 to July 4 this year was a successful commemoration of the same tradition. Children had their bellyful enjoyment through a variety of activities like dramas, speeches, quizzes, competitions and plenty of outdoor entertainment.
The hidden potential of housewives and their selfless dedication made the program a real success.
The highlights of the camp included:
- Memorizing portions of Qur’an
- Quran and Science
- Muhammad P.B.U.H, the teacher of etiquette
- Learning beautiful moral stories
- Puppet shows
- Moral dramas
- Video sessions with Islamic cartoons
- Lessons from nature
- Arts & Crafts, Baking
- First Aid
- Beauty tips

The real winner was “An interview with Satan.” Though, very entertaining, the act was full of lessons taken from the Islamic teachings for character development, depicted by our everyday interactions with our society.
The camp activities were not confined to the four walls of PAD. The children were taken to various sites, like 'Al Siraj' in the Heritage Village Dubai where they witnessed the lifestyle of traditional desert people.
On the conclusion of the camp on the 5th of July, a glittering prize distribution ceremony was arranged. The students performed colorful dramas and recited poems which they had learned during the classes. Active participation by known social workers added life to the event.
