Al Qur'aan
Oh you who believe! Fear Allah as He should be feared, and die not except in a state of Islam. And hold fast, all together, by the rope which Allah (stretches out for you), and be not divided among yourselves; and remember with gratitude Allah’s favor on you; for you were enemies and He joined your hearts in love, so that by His grace, you became brethren; and you were on the brink of the pit of fire, and He saved you from it. Thus Allah makes His signs clear to you that you may be guided. (Al-Qura’an 3 : 102-103)

 Sixty Years of Independence

August 14th 2007, 60 years have passed since we attained our very own homeland; breaking away from the visible shackles of slavery and breathing the fresh air of liberty. Sixty years in time is infancy in the history of nations but today Pakistan stands at the political and geographical center stage of the world arena.

We as non-resident Pakistanis are the ambassadors reflecting the culture, moods, and tastes of our nation. Under the globally

changing scenarios, it makes us responsible to resonate the true and honest ambitions that were set forth for the nation by the Quaid–e–Azam. Pakistan was born as a state that would be a living example of Unity, Faith & Discipline. These principles are to be recalled and practiced now more than ever before in the past.

Let’s all get together and ponder how we can jointly chart the course of our future. We are a small representation of Pakistan in the UAE. It places a huge responsibility on our shoulders to embody the ideals of our founding fathers and create best practices that could be replicated by the Muslim communities all over the world.

May Allah bring prosperity, peace and stability to our nation – Ameen

 Proud Pakistani
An interview with Nazir Boota Khan - Gardner at Dubai Municipality
Yes, he is a proud Pakistani; the winner of Dubai Excellence Award. His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, recently recognized 29 years of his dedicated and unprecedented service to keep the community green.

A young heart in his sixties, Nazir has been working eight hours a day regularly; be it the scorching sun, intense humidity or the freezing cold. This iron man has always been there on duty with his ever-pleasant smile that he steals from the flowers he nourishes.

Throughout the interview, there was a smile full of contentment and joy that no words can describe. He is a proud Pakistani and a reason for Pakistani community in the UAE to be proud of. We met in his room at the Municipality’s labor accommodation in Dubai; very neat and clean; a true reflection of a simple and disciplined life.

When asked how he felt about this prestigious award, he gave credit to Allah SWT and was thankful to the government who recognized his efforts.

Boota came to the UAE in 1974 and has been associated with Dubai Municipality for the last 30 years. He hails from Panjgaran, a village near Islamabad.

According to him, apart from the appreciation of people in Dubai, there are bigger awards in his life. One of which is his three daughters and two sons to whom he and his wife provided the best possible education and manners.

Both his sons and one daughter hold master’s degrees from reputable universities in Pakistan. His sons are associated with a government office in Islamabad. His younger daughter is studying and he has the same ambition for her as well.

He was, however, a little sad while mentioning one of his daughters, who had gotten married just after graduation and could not complete her master’s degree because her in-laws did not allow her to do so. Continuing with his story, Nazir revealed that he and his wife did not have any formal schooling, but both

understood the value of education and how much pain and effort is required to achieve such goals. For him, his life savings are his educated children serving the nation.

During one of his vacations back home, he saw to it that his children studied at night. One day Nazir noticed that his children had to be involved in the routine care for the cows in the afternoon. He then decided to sell the cattle; since he wanted his children to focus exclusively on their education.

If all Pakistani’s followed this simple man’s example, there would hardly be anyone left whose face isn’t lit with contentment and pride like one witnessed on Nazir’s face.

The life of Nazir Boota Khan is not only worth being proud of, but there is also a lesson to be learnt and an example to be followed. If one has a vision and believes in himself, he gets what he desires, nothing stops him; be it the scorching sun, intense humidity or the freezing cold.

 A Record Collection
Pakistanis Donate 2.1 Million Dirhams for PAD Welfare Fund

The community does it again! The PAD has acted as a guardian for the needy Pakistani families residing in the UAE as well as for our fellow countrymen in times of crises.

The PAD has made extensive efforts to help the underprivileged children through educational and other training programs. This

has helped develop their self esteem and has given them a ray of hope to break out of the poverty trap and stand on their own feet.

The relentless efforts and commitment of the PAD were evident when respected dignitaries of Pakistan community pledged to contribute AED 2.1 Million for the year to enhance and enlarge PAD’s role in the support of needy Pakistanis.

While profoundly thanking the efforts and assistance of Pakistanis for their generous contributions, the PAD vows to be always committed to serve the community through its welfare and social wing.

We request all Pakistanis to come forward and assist PAD in becoming an anchor for all of us here in the United Arab Emirates.

 The Welfare Challenge
One Monday Evening – Many Stories!
“ My daughter has been thrown out of the school.” Why? “Because I could not pay her fee.”

“My husband is jobless. He needs an immediate kidney operation. He has no medical insurance. We have no money. Please can someone take the cost of the surgery? Please………….”

“In this soaring heat, our water and power supply has been disconnected.” Why? “I have no money to settle the bills.”

“My roommate has given me the ultimatum. I must move out!” Why? “I can not pay my share of the rent.”

Come to PAD on Monday evenings and listen to these and many more heartbreaking real stories of deprived members of the Pakistani Community in Dubai.

How can we solve their problems? Any idea? As a responsible member of the community, Can you come up with something feasible?

 PAD Services for Amnesty Seekers
Twenty Thousand Exit Passes Issued

Thousands of innocent Pakistanis still continue to be lured by many unscrupulous human traffickers in their home country. This is evident by the large number of amnesty seekers amassing at the premises of PAD every day. Amnesty seekers fall into three categories:
1. Those who entered the UAE through illegal routes
2. Those who absconded from their employers/ sponsors, and
3. Visitors who overstayed.

Surprisingly, a thirteen year old boy was also queuing up to obtain his exit pass.

The UAE government once again showed their humanitarian gesture and announced amnesty for all illegal immigrants. All beneficiaries needed exit passes to be issued by their respective embassies/consulates.

Such a huge task puts enormous demands on any embassy or consulate – and the Pakistani Consulate in Dubai was no exception. In order to serve the community and in keeping with its traditions, the PAD came to the rescue. Dozens of Pakistanis, mainly young students, offered voluntary services to manage the complete project, along with the dedicated staff of PAD and consulate officials. Around 20,000 exit passes have so far been issued since 2nd of July 2007.

The PAD did not merely limit itself to arrange the exit passes, but was also able to motivate Pakistani businessmen to provide

around 150 jobs to the deserving candidates among the amnesty seekers.

In extremely deserving cases, PAD also provided air tickets to the deportees.

In the process, many Pakistani individuals and organizations came forward to extend their support. The Ravi Restaurant deserves a special appreciation for providing around 200 lunch boxes daily for the amnesty seekers; many of them traveling long distances to collect their passes. Pakistani community appreciates all these selfless supportive efforts.

Such amnesties should not be taken as guaranteed forever. We hope and urge that Pakistani individuals and related organizations to demonstrate a more responsible behavior to avoid such humiliation in future.
